Sports Day for Orphaned and Disabled Children: The Fusion of Chunhui Mama and the Olympic Spirit

The important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win, but to take part; the important thing in Life is not triumph, but the struggle.

——By Baron Pierre de Coubertin

At the 2024 Paris Olympics, we witness the athletes’ determination and persever-ance. Meanwhile, on the playgrounds of children’s welfare institutions, the orphaned and disabled children in the Chunhui Mama are embodying the Olympic spirit in their own unique way. A special sports day is underway, but here, what truly defines victory?

Here, “victory” takes on a special mean-ing. It’s about running on one leg, aiming at a target with unseen eyes, spiking the ball while seated, or crossing the finish line. It’s about holding on until the moment of triumph. But it’s also about winning respect, confidence, hope, and friendship. It’s about gaining strength for an entire community. Simply stepping onto the field is a victory in itself. And behind these children stand the Chunhui mamas, whose dedicated care, silent support, and the power of love help shape the children into the individuals they are becoming: “the people you’ve taught us to be.”

Inclusive Education:

Growing Together Under the Olympic Spirit

The concept of inclusive education stems from a deep respect and care for every life. Inclusive education emphasizes that children from different backgrounds and with different needs can learn and grow together. In this sports event, children of varying ages and abilities compete side by side, experiencing the thrill of effort and the beauty of support from their peers.

This kind of inclusion not only breaks down the barriers between body and mind but also allows them to experience the true essence of the Olympic spirit—faster, higher, and stronger. Through sports, the children learn to encourage and support one another, growing together as a unified team.

Sport Rehabilitation:

Challenging Oneself

Olympic Spirts Empower the Path for Recovery

For orphaned and disabled children, sports are not just a form of exercise but a way to challenge themselves and reshape their futures. Through physical activity, they gradually heal their bodies and find solace for their spirits.

Each run is a testament to their love for life, and each jump represents their hope for the future. In the realm of sports rehabilitation, Chunhui mamas have dedicated immense effort. They design personalized exercise plans based on each child's physical condition, encouraging them to bravely try and strive hard. With the support of Chunhui Mamas, the children gradually recover their bodies through sports, strengthen their physical health, and regain their confidence and courage.

Chunhui Mamas’

Involvement:

The Core of Sports is Being Together

Parent-child sports play a crucial role in children’s growth and development. They not only promote physical and mental health but also strengthen the emotional bonds between Chunhui mamas and the children. Additionally, sports help relieve stress, bringing joy and relaxation. Participating in activities together creates precious memories. Whether it’s the joy of success or the challenge of setbacks, these experiences become cherished memories they share together.

When Chunhui mamas participate in sports with the children, the kids are more likely to share in this positive emotional state, which enhances cohesion and happiness. Chunhui mamas also set a positive example of "active living" for the children. Seeing their mothers’ enthusiasm and dedication to sports encourages the children to become more involved in physical activities themselves.

Teamwork:

Fostering Team Spirit, Building Olympic Glory Together

Teamwork is a crucial component of this sports event. This spirit of collaboration not only teaches them how to interact with others but also lays a solid foundation for their future lives and learning. Through teamwork, the children learn to cooperate and support one another, contributing to a shared sense of Olympic glory. Under the guidance of Chunhui Mamas, the orphaned and disabled children play their roles within the team, working together towards collective success.

Look at the sidelines, where the cheers and encouragement come not only from Chunhui mamas but also from the rehabilitation therapists who support the children, the social workers who coordinate tirelessly, the caretakers in logistics, and the doctors in the infirmary. Every staff member is a participant in this grand event. Through the medium of sports, they get to know each other, combine their professional strengths, break down industry barriers, and center their efforts around the children, cheering them on every step of the way!

We Like to Win, But Embrace Losing Even More:

Facing Setbacks, Guided by the Olympic Spirit

If we want to nurture resilience and courage in children, they need to face adversity from time to time.

At the sports event, the success of the winners is often supported by their peers. Amidst the joy, there should also be gratitude. The process of competition is a journey of mutual appreciation and recognition. Losing a match is not a failure; rather, it teaches orphaned and disabled children how to face setbacks and move forward with courage. Each failure becomes a stepping stone to success, strengthening their resolve and confidence for the future. To celebrate this spirit, the Chunhui Children’s Foundation’s Sports Day features awards such as Best Courage Award and Best Spirit Award to cheer on all participating Chunhui kids.

Chunhui Children’s Foundation Chunhui Mama Project

The Fusion of Rehabilitation and Education with Compassion

The Chunhui Mama of Chunhui Children remains steadfast in its commitment to the integration of rehabilitation and education, aiming to promote the comprehensive development of orphaned and disabled children. This sports event vividly embodies the project's philosophy. By organizing the sports day, not only is the physical fitness of these children improved, but their mental health and social adaptability are also enhanced. Additionally, the incorporation of the Olympic spirit helps the children become stronger, more confident, and more united.

We also cheer for the athletes of the 2024 Paris Olympics! May they showcase the spirit of Chinese athletes on the field and bring glory to the nation! At the same time, we hope that orphaned and disabled children can draw strength from the Olympic spirit, bravely face life’s challenges, and strive for a brighter future.
