Happy Chinese New Year
As the 2024 Chinese Lunar New Year (Spring Festival) was approaching, Chunhui Children’s early education program delivered a rich variety of games and activities for the children.
These fascinating games and activities offered the children great opportunities to experience fun, learn about the festival, work together with other children on handcrafts and develop their hands-on skills.
Handicraft
Hands-on operation is an important part of early childhood education. It requires exercise of our brain. Fine motor movement of hands improves one’s eye-hand coordination, concentration and imagination.

With the help of Chunhui mamas, the children used colorful paper, stickers and pigments to make couplets and the character “福”.

Paper cutting is a traditional handicraft of China. Chunhui mamas helped the children design simple paper patterns to improve their hand dexterity.

Artistic creations increased the children’s hands-on skills and bonded them closer with their Chunhui mamas.

The children made simple lanterns with paper or other materials.

The children made creative red envelops and New Year cards with colorful paper, adhesive tapes, crayons and stickers.
Music and movement
The sensitive period for language is from 7 months in utero up to 5.5 years of age. Music and movement promote language develop-ment.

Table manners include inviting the elders to take their seats first, not competing for food, not messing the plates, cherishing food, eat in a proper way, and handling tableware gently……
Role play
Role play builds up the children’s language and self-care skills.

“Shops” of “ice cream”, “cake” and “candies” were designed, and the children were encouraged to play the roles of “seller” and “customer”.

The children pretend to photograph and be photographed in different costumes.
Games
The children joined in outdoor games to develop their physical skills and learn about festival traditions.

Games like hopscotch, walking on stilts and lucky draw brought the children immense fun, improved their physical balance, and boosted their team spirit.
As the Spring Festival was around the corner, New Year elements were seen and felt everywhere, in the morning music and movement, in outdoor games, in classroom activities, in environment set-up……. The widespread festivity inspired the children to explore, learn, develop their interests, and unleash their potentials.
